Upgrade & Maintain Your Switchboard for Safety & Efficiency

Your switchboard is the brain to your electrical system. It receives electricity either from the grid, or your solar system, and distributes the energy through your electrical circuits to power your home.

The Importance of your switchboard

Your switchboard is the brain to your electrical system. It receives electricity either from the grid, or your solar system, and distributes the energy through your electrical circuits to power your home.

Safety Switches (RCDs)

A Residual Current Device (RCD) is a life saving device, that is designed to disconnect the electrical supply to part of the house in the event of a dangerous situation, like an electrical fault, or when someone receives an electric shock.

The RCD monitors the electricity going in, and coming out of certain circuits, and will isolate the electricity supply in the event of an electrical imbalance (earth leakage) within 30 milliseconds, potentially saving your life, or the lives of your loved ones.

If you’re whether your switchboard is fitted with RCDs, Contact Solark Electrical.

Why switchboard upgrades are sometimes necessary

Old switchboards can sometimes pose a serious threat to your property, and your life. Partially, or fully upgrading your switchboard may be necessary to ensure your property is compliant with Australia’s current regulations and standards.

Upgrading your switchboard can also result in less inconvenience in the event of a tripping circuit and can help find electrical problems in a much shorter time frame.

Important reasons to upgrade

  1. Installing RCDs – Upgrading your switchboard will mean almost every circuit in your property will be RCD protected.
  2. Some old black boards contain asbestos – A switchboard upgrade will remove this asbestos from your property
  3. Changing old ceramic fuses to new circuit breakers – Ceramic fuses pose multiple threats, from the ability to access live conductors while they’re pulled out, to lose cables arcing and causing house fires.
  4. Surge protectors – An electrical surge is an unlikely event which can cause damage to electrical appliances like computers, TVs, and solar inverters. A surge protector can prevent this damage from reaching your appliances.
  5. Circuit identification – When upgrading your switchboard, our electricians will clearly identify and label your circuits, for ease of reference in the future.
  6. Creates space for future circuits – A switchboard upgrade can also free up a lot of space for future circuits, like a new solar system or EV charger.
