Energy audits

Energy audits across Perth, so you know where the power goes before you spend.

An energy audit tells you which loads are costing you money and which upgrades would actually change your bill. Sometimes the answer is not solar.

Signs to look for

Signs an audit would pay for itself

An audit is the cheapest way to find out what is worth doing, and sometimes the answer is not solar.

  • The bill is high and nobody in the house can say why.

  • The bill jumped without anything obvious changing.

  • Something runs all night and you have no idea what it is.

  • You are weighing up solar, a battery or new appliances and want the numbers first.

  • Your business pays demand charges and you are not sure what sets them.

What is included

What an audit looks at

Buying the fix before diagnosing the problem

It is the most common expensive mistake in this industry. A household with a failing hot water element, a pool pump running sixteen hours a day and halogen downlights throughout does not have a solar problem. Put a large system on that house and you have bought a bigger system than you need to cover waste you could have removed for a fraction of the cost.

An audit puts the numbers on the table first. Sometimes the outcome is a solar quote from us. Sometimes it is a timer, a hot water change and a lighting swap, and no solar at all.

We size the system to your bills, not your roof.

Businesses

For a small business the same logic applies with bigger numbers attached, and demand charges usually matter more than consumption. We look at when your peaks happen and whether they can be moved before recommending you generate more.

Before a solar quote

If you are getting solar quotes, an audit changes the conversation. You stop comparing system sizes and start comparing whether anybody has understood your usage.

  • Your billing and interval data, so we can see when you use power and not just how much.
  • The major loads: hot water, air conditioning, pool equipment, ovens and cooktops.
  • Standby and always-on load, which is often larger than people expect.
  • Lighting type and quantity throughout.
  • Existing solar performance, if you have solar, against what it should be doing.
  • Tariff structure and whether you are on the right one for how you use power.
  • A written summary ranking what to do first by what it actually saves.

How it works

How the job runs

  1. Send three bills

Your last three power bills, and interval data from your retailer if you can get it. That combination tells us more than a walk around the house.

  2. Find the real loads

Hot water, air conditioning, pool equipment, ovens, and the always-on load that is usually bigger than people expect.

  3. Rank by what it saves

A written summary ordered by actual dollars saved, not by what is most interesting to sell you.

  4. Then decide

Sometimes the answer is solar. Sometimes it is a timer, a hot water change and a lighting swap for a fraction of the cost. You get told which.

  5. Aftercare

The same number to ring if anything is not right afterwards. Your guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law apply to our work, as our Warranty Terms set out.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

Is an audit worth it if I am getting solar anyway?

Often yes, because it usually changes the size of the system you need. Removing a wasteful load is nearly always cheaper per kilowatt hour than generating power to cover it.

What do I need to give you?

Your last few power bills, and interval data from your retailer if you can get it. That combination tells us more than a walk around the house.

Will you just recommend solar?

No. We have told customers the answer was a timer and a hot water change. We would rather be the people who told you the truth than the people who sold you the biggest system.

Do you do this for businesses?

Yes. For commercial sites demand charges usually matter more than total consumption, and that changes the recommendation.

Jack was quick to respond to our battery query. He provided honest useful information about AC vs DC battery systems. The time is not right yet to add a battery, as there is life left in our existing system.

Great clear presentation promoting hands on service and expertise. Outlined all the benefits of the product and walked us through the process. It wasn't the cheapest quote but I felt confident that SolArk would be the best option. Installation and delivery matched the presentation.
