Signs to look for

Signs your lighting needs work

Lighting is the job people notice every evening, so it is worth getting right.

  • Old halogen downlights running hot and costing more than they need to.

  • Rooms that are too dim for how you actually use them.

  • A dark driveway, path or patio with nothing on a sensor.

  • New fittings already bought and waiting for someone to put them up.

  • A renovation underway and the lighting plan needs sorting before the ceiling goes back.

What is included

What we install

Placement before product

Most disappointing lighting is not a bad fitting, it is a fitting in the wrong place. Downlights lined up over the edge of the bench instead of over the working surface. A pendant hung at a height that either blinds you or looks lost. Six thousand kelvin cool white in a bedroom.

We will tell you where things want to go before we cut a hole, and we are happy to say when the plan you have been given will not do what you want.

They offered to check our smoke alarms and aircon filters without being asked.

Halogen to LED

If you still have halogen downlights, replacing them cuts a real amount of power and removes a genuine heat risk in the ceiling space. It is also the moment to reconsider the layout rather than putting new fittings in old holes for the sake of it.

Renovations

Get us in before the plasterer. Moving a light after the ceiling is closed costs several times what it costs to put it in the right place first.

  • LED downlights, including replacing old halogens and their transformers.
  • Pendants and feature lighting, hung at a height that works for the room.
  • Under-cabinet, pantry and wardrobe lighting, including sensor switching.
  • Outdoor, garden, alfresco and security lighting.
  • Motion sensors and daylight switching.
  • Dimmers matched to the fittings, so they do not buzz or flicker.
  • Smoke alarm replacement while we are in the ceiling anyway.

How it works

How the job runs

  1. Talk through the rooms

What each room is used for matters more than a fitting list. Most disappointing lighting is a good fitting in the wrong place.

  2. Layout before holes

We mark out where things want to go and walk it with you. Far cheaper to move a mark than a hole in the ceiling.

  3. Installed and tidy

Fittings installed, dimmers matched so they do not buzz, insulation and rubbish out with us rather than into your bin.

  4. Switched on together

Every circuit tested with you there, dimmers set, and the smoke alarms checked while we are already in the ceiling.

  5. Aftercare

The same number to ring if anything is not right afterwards. Your guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law apply to our work, as our Warranty Terms set out.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

Can you supply the fittings?

Yes, and it is usually the easier road. We supply quality fittings we know hold up, they arrive with the electrician rather than needing a separate trip to a lighting shop, and if one fails we handle the warranty instead of you chasing a receipt. If you have already bought your own, that is completely fine too and we will fit them.

What colour temperature should I choose?

Every situation is different, and the honest answer depends on the room, the wall colour, how much natural light it gets and what you use it for. As a starting point, warmer light suits living areas and bedrooms while cooler light suits kitchens, laundries and garages. Plenty of fittings are switchable now, so we can set it once you have seen it in the room.

How many downlights does a room need?

Fewer than most plans specify, placed better. We would rather work it out in the room with you than follow a grid drawn on a plan.

Will you make a mess in the ceiling?

No. Tidiness is the thing our reviews mention most, and insulation and rubbish leave with us rather than going in your bin.

Really impressed with the service from Solark's electricians. They arrived on time, were friendly, professional, and did a great job installing our pendant light. What stood out was their attention to detail. They offered to check our smoke alarms and aircon filters without being asked.

From the moment I received a reply to my email to Solark Electrical requesting a quote on installing lights to our new build, I knew I'd found the right company. The email I received in return was friendly and had a warm tone to it.
